We are known to apply for up to 5 references and the majority of nannies understand that we have to meticulously check their CV employment history so are happy it is the agency that chooses the referees not the nanny, which can indicate to us they have nothing serious to hide.
For every parent who opts to use a well-known Agency to find a Nanny there will be another especially in recession that will consider low cost Internet advertising.
A candidate will want to impress you so it is unlikely that they will mention to you if an agency had good reason to de-register or opted not to represent them. Be careful meeting a person independent from an agency, as we do know of parents that were misled by fictitious CVs and of genuine nannies known to the agency that have deleted information they do want to explain to a new employer.
Many parents are not aware Ofsted registered child carers are not government interviewed or reference checked on any claimed childcare experience and to get on that they need only complete a few hours childcare course.
